Dr Kol Wickramage

Global Migration Health Research and Epidemiology Coordinator

Dr Kol Wickramage is the Global Migration Health Research and Epidemiology Coordinator for IOM's Migration Health Division. He provides technical support and guidance on research and evidence generation across the 3 IOM health domains: health assessment, technical cooperation and health action in crisis and emergencies.

Kol is a public health doctor who completed his training in Australia. He worked with the World Health Organization from 2004 and then joined IOM in 2009. He has also completed a doctorate in public health and master’s in human rights with emphasis on health law pertaining to forced migration and health. Kol has worked on a broad spectrum of migration and health programmes ranging from interventions for displaced populations following conflict and disasters, to working with senior policy makers at national, regional and global levels on migration health policy formulation. Kol previously led IOM's health programme in Sri Lanka where IOM assisted the Ministry of Health in advancing a national migration health policy and action plan through an evidence-based, Inter-ministerial process. He also worked in IOM headquarters on global health security interventions, Ebola response in West Africa and migration health policy.
