Migrants as Messengers: The Impact of Peer-to-Peer Communication on Potential Migrants in Senegal - Impact Evaluation Report

Migrants as Messengers Senegal

The report presents key results from a rigorous impact evaluation that assessed the impact of the Migrants as Messengers (MaM) information events in Dakar, Senegal. MaM was a peer-to-peer awareness-raising campaign implemented in Senegal, Guinea and Nigeria from December 2017 to March 2019. The impact evaluation in Senegal focused on a key pillar of the MaM campaign, namely town hall events, which screened video testimonies of migrant returnees followed by interactive questions and answers sessions with migrant returnees. The evaluation is IOM’s first a ‘Randomized Controlled Trial’ which is a scientifically rigorous type of evaluation that is often called the ‘gold-standard’ in impact research. The study was conducted by IOM’s Global Migration Data Analysis Unit in coordination with IOM’s Media & Communications Division.
