The Missing Migrants Project (MMP) as well as two projects informed by the Migration Governance Indicators (MGI) – Brazil's MigraCidades and Albania's National Strategy on Migration and Action Plan – were recently selected by UNDESA's Sustainable Development Goals Division as SDG good practices.
SDG good practices are practices that could be replicated or scaled-up globally by others, show how gaps and constraints could be addressed, support recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, and demonstrate steps to accelerate progress in achieving the SDGs.
Both the MMP and MGI are projects of the IOM Global Migration Data Analysis Centre and support SDG Target 10.7, which calls on States to support "orderly, safe, regular and responsible migration" through "well-managed migration policies." The MMP began in 2014 and remains one of the few measures of "safe migration." Since 2015, the MGI has been assessing countries' migration governance; so far, 84 countries have participated in the MGI process.
