José Antonio Mejía

Lead Specialist, Modernisation of the State

José Antonio Mejía works as Modernisation of the State Lead Specialist at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), where he specialises in strengthening of statistical capacity and data on citizen security and violence against women. He holds a master's degree in Public Policy from Georgetown University and a master's degree in Economics from George Washington University. He served as Vice president of the first Governing Board of Mexico's National Statistics and Geography Institute (INEGI) between 2008 and 2012. Before that he worked at the IDB for 13 years, where he coordinated the MECOVI Programme.

José Antonio Mejía actualmente se desempeña como Especialista Líder en Modernización del Estado en el Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo (BID), en donde sus temas son fortalecimiento de capacidades estadísticas e información sobre seguridad pública y violencia contra las mujeres. Es maestro en Políticas Públicas por la Universidad de Georgetown y maestro en Economía por la Universidad George Washington. Se desempeñó como Vicepresidente de la primera Junta de Gobierno del Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografíaáfica de México (INEGI) del 2008 al 2012. Antes de dicho nombramiento trabajó durante 13 años en el BID, donde coordinó el Programa MECOVI.
