SDG indicator 10.7.2 - Policy brief #1, October 2019

10.7.2 policy brief

SDG indicator 10.7.2: Number of countries with migration policies to facilitate orderly, safe, regular and responsible migration and mobility of people

This policy brief provides an update on data availability and progress towards this indicator. UN DESA and IOM serve as co-custodians of SDG indicator 10.7.2. Migration is an integral part of the 2030 Agenda. The methodology for SDG indicator 10.7.2 was developed through an extensive process of consultations. The brief is based on data collected through the international migration module of the UN 12th Inquiry among Governments on Population and Development in 2018. The brief presents the following findings:

  • More than half of all Governments report having a wide range of policies to facilitate orderly, safe, regular and responsible migration and mobility of people
  • Country reporting of policies to facilitate orderly, safe, regular and responsible migration is uneven across the six domains
  • The reporting of policy measures to protect migrant rights varies widely
  • Whole-of-government or evidence-based policies are not reported uniformly
  • Most Governments report having measures to promote cooperation and partnerships on migration
  • Further steps are needed to promote the socio-economic well-being of migrants
  • Most Governments have policy measures to address the mobility dimensions of crises
  • Promoting safe, orderly and regular migration is a priority for most Governments.
