Dr. Richard E. Bilsborrow

Dr. Bilsborrow is an economist-demographer who trained at the University of Michigan (PhD, Economics) and completed a postdoc at Princeton University (Cert. in Demography). He has taught economics at New York University and spent most of his career at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC), consulting in developing countries while teaching demography and conducting research on population, development and environment, as well as internal and international migration (leading to two much-used books in 1984 and 1997, the latter entitled International Migration Statistics: Guidelines for Improving Data Collection Systems). Since 1997, much of his work has involved designing and analyzing specialized household surveys on international migration, in Ecuador, Sub-Saharan Africa, the Commonwealth of Independent State (CIS) States, and especially in the Arab Mediterranean region through the MED-HIMS project.
