International Migration Statistics: Meeting the International Recommendations
This training toolkit, developed by Ann Singleton (University of Bristol/GMDAC/IOM) for the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), focuses on improving data collection in countries of the Arab region and provides the information necessary to develop and improve statistical systems for migration statistics. The approach, although applied to national training needs, is intended to support building regional capacity for the collection of comparable data, using UN standards. It identifies common pitfalls and includes easy-to-use exercises and annexes. In the annex are model tables developed by the United Nations for the collection of comparable migration data. It also aims to encourage the use of hitherto under-exploited administrative sources of migration data, in addition to censuses and surveys.
