Christine Adam

Christine Adam is the Division Head of the Office of the Legal Counsel at IOM’s Office of Legal Affairs at its headquarters in Geneva/ Switzerland.  Responsibilities of her division include constitutional and mandate issues, rules of procedure of the Organization’s Policy Making Bodies, data protection, as well as formal legal advice on organizational policies in areas of migration governance and humanitarian action. In previous posts with IOM, Christine worked as an Assisted Voluntary Return and Resettlement Officer at IOM’s regional office in Helsinki/ Finland and as a Program Assistant at the country office in Bern/ Switzerland.

Prior to IOM, Christine, a German national, was a civil servant in the German public administration. Her assignments included work at the German Embassy in Lima/ Peru.
Christine studied law at the university of Potsdam/ Germany and the university of Granada/ Spain and holds a German law degree with the qualification as judge.

Christine has published on a variety of subjects of law and migration, including on law of the sea, a comparative analysis of laws for legal immigration in the EU and on legal issues around voluntary return of unaccompanied children. A native German speaker, she is fluent in English, Spanish and French.
