Inferring Patterns of Internal Migration from Mobile Phone Call Records: Evidence from Rwanda
Blumenstock's work offers an example of how 'big data,' in this case cell phone records, can help measure migration in a world where surveys and censuses are expensive and sometimes erroneous. Especially interesting is how Blumenstock's findings suggest that mobile phone data can capture a more nuanced picture of migration flows than is typically depicted from a survey's findings.
