Migrants Count: Five Steps Toward Better Migration Data
In this report readers can find five migration data recommendations that are products of a 2008 meeting of top experts in the field. The suggestions are meant to be low-cost and easy to implement, and require improving existing methods (such as adding new questions to ongoing census processes, as at the time of publication many countries still did not ask residents' place of birth). They are also meant to be politically realistic. For each of the recommendations, the authors deliberately answer the 'why,' 'how,' and 'who' so that readers can easily understand why each suggestion was made and how they could put it to use in their own country.
